Student Attendance and Educational Outcomes: Every Day Counts (2013)

This report documents the findings of research conducted on the relationship between attendance at school and student outcomes. Using data from the Department of Education, researchers at the Telethon Kids Institute studied the attendance patterns and NAPLAN results of 415,000 primary and secondary public school students from Western Australia over a five year time-frame. The report reinforces the need for parents to be fully informed about the long term impact of too many absences.

Student Engagement and Attendance

Research in the Student Engagement and Attendance overview document clearly shows a relationship between unstable attendance in the early years of schooling, increasing non attendance as students get older and significant long term outcomes on achievement and success. Early intervention and a collaborative approach have been identified as essential to reducing the risks assocaited with poor attendance.
