Keeping Kids in School

Keeping Kids in School operates through the support of Western Australian Police.  The aim of the initiative is to reduce student absence by discouraging students from accessing shopping and leisure centres during school hours, while establishing relationships between schools, local businesses and the community.

Schools can work with local businesses to develop a united message within the community regarding expectations for regular student attendance.  By registering at the link below, schools can gain access to a package of electronic resources including posters, signage, information and templates to distribute to local businesses and community members.

These resources are designed for schools or networks to be able to utilise and run Keeping Kids in School independently.  Advice is available from your Education Regional Office and through the Community Engagement Division, Western Australian Police.

The Keeping Kids in Schools resources have been updated and revised as at July 2017.

What is the role of schools?

Participating schools or networks should establish relationships with local businesses and keep them updated with appropriate school contact details, information on leave passes, attendance requirements, school term dates, exam breaks and any event which may give rise to student absence on a particular day.

What is the role of businesses?

Participation in the program is voluntary.  Local businesses are asked to display a poster in their store window and politely refuse service to students absent from school without a leave pass.  Some schools work with their local shire or council, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or directly with individual businesses to establish Keeping Kids in School within their community.

How to access resources

Please note that registering for the Keeping Kids in School resources will provide you with access to pdf documents that can be printed onsite or at a print shop.  Hard-copy resources are not sent.
