Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor Training 2018

The School Psychology Service has a long and proud history of supporting practicum placements for aspiring school psychologists, and employing graduates.  Experienced school psychologists are encouraged to obtain and maintain Psychology Board of Australia (Board) approved supervisor status to:

  • provide supervision for provisionally registered psychologists undertaking internship pathways (and other pathways towards general registration); and
  • supervise (mentor) 5th year psychology students undertaking practicum placement.

Engagement in the supervision process provides a professional learning experience in itself and an opportunity to develop the next generation of school psychologists.

From 1 July 2013, all psychologists applying to become Board-approved supervisors must have successfully completed a Board-approved training program in psychology supervision.  Additional Board-approved training must be completed every five years in order to maintain Board-approved status.  Conscious of the need to retain a quota of Board-approved supervisors and ensure the highest quality of supervision for graduate school psychologists, the School Psychology Service has funded a limited number of places in a variety of supervision training programs since 2014.

If you are a school psychologist with the Department of Education and must complete a Master Class by 30 June 2018, please speak with your lead school psychologist at your earliest convenience to arrange refresher training.

School psychologists aspiring to supervise or wanting to attend a Master Class in the second half of 2018 may express interest in a funded place in Board approved supervisor training.

Applications for funded places in supervision training close on Friday 20 April 2018 and no late applications will be accepted.
