About Standards and Integrity

What we do

The Standards and Integrity Directorate, is responsible for the delivery of a range of integrated functions including:

  • the administration of complaints regarding alleged misconduct by staff;
  • directing the allocation and timely investigation of complaints relating to employee misconduct;
  • the coordination of all disciplinary processes;
  • the completion of internal risk-assessments of Departmental staff with reference to their personal conduct, complaints history, performance and criminal records;
  • the investigation of complaints and allegations against staff, including public interest disclosures, serious misconduct and breaches of discipline at all levels which relate to employee misconduct;
  • the provision of proactive professional learning strategies related to professional standards and conduct; and
  • leading the development of strategic policies, standards and legislation related to professional standards and conduct.

How we operate

The Standards and Integrity Directorate comprises 3 main teams:

Assessment Team

  • accepts and assesses complaints involving allegations of staff misconduct;
  • liaises with the Investigative Services Team on the most suitable way to manage a complaint;
  • manages conduct reporting and compliance and strategic analysis, and
  • has oversight of disciplinary matters referred for local managerial action.


Prevention and Education Team
The delivery of proactive Standards and Integrity Directorate programs is managed by the Prevention and Education Team. The team is responsible for:

  • the development and delivery of professional learning programs and educational presentations to both school and non-school based staff relating to staff misconduct;
  • raising awareness about, and assisting staff to manage complaints relating to misconduct and misconduct issues where appropriate;
  • the development and maintenance of an agency Misconduct Management Framework, and
  • policy review and implementation.


Investigative Services Teams
The Investigative Services Team is the major area of operations within the Standards and Integrity Directorate. The investigations arm of the Directorate includes teams of investigators with a diverse range of investigative specialisations including child protection, internal investigation and fraud. Investigators:

  • undertake investigations into complex and sensitive matters;
  • support local management of complaints at the School and District level, and
  • provide specialist expertise for Departmental and state wide initiatives including policy.
