The science horizons Specialist Program is an academic extension in science and mathematics for children with above average ability in these areas. 

Areas of study include:

• metallurgy
• marine biology
• introduction to engineering
• alternate energy
• biotechnology
• crystallography
• chemistry of wetlands
• virtual physics.

Teachers have strong links with universities and industry, particularly the mining industry.

Children work with other students with similar interests and are encouraged to think ‘outside the box’ to explore and investigate cutting edge science.

Children are also involved in:

• science projects
• competitions
• running a science fair
• presenting and attending workshops, work sites and conferences
• Science Horizons Marine Managers Program (dolphin and mangrove research).
