Department of Education

Welcome to the Screening website

The Department of Education's Screening Unit manages the Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check process for the Education and Training sectors in Western Australia, and accesses criminal history information through the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC). This includes all Public (Government) schools and people employed by TAFE Colleges, Catholic schools and many Independent (Private) schools.  Students in WA universities and TAFE Colleges who are undertaking a practicum in Public schools are also screened by the Department's Screening Unit, as are School Board and School Council members.

The Working with Children Check is a comprehensive criminal record check for people working with children in Western Australia, and is processed through the Department for Child Protection and Family Support.

The Working with Children Check is a separate requirement from the Department's Criminal Record Check. In many instances, both checks will be required.

Screening for Criminal History
