About Schools Plus

Supporting non Government Organisations

The Department of Education and Training has developed Schools Plus. This is a model of informed practice to match educational need to supplementary resourcing support for schools. Schools Plus makes practical links between teaching and learning adjustments, services and support, professional learning and supplementary resourcing for schools.

Schools Plus provides supplementary resources to Western Australian public schools that have eligible students. These students may require significant and often ongoing teaching and learning adjustments to ensure that educational outcomes are achieved.

The Schools Plus process enables schools to gather evidence of educational need, determine the level of adjustments required and decide if a request for additional assistance is appropriate.

Information is provided in a transparent way to support collaborative decision making between teachers, school administrators, parents and carers.

Schools Plus provides a concise way to represent educational need. This assists schools to plan, implement and review appropriate educational programs. These may include:

  • teaching and learning adjustments,
  • appropriate services and supports,
  • professional learning needs,
  • the informed use of resources, and
  • informed assessment and reporting practices.

The Schools Plus Profile records the level of teaching and learning adjustments that are required.

Schools Plus assists all stakeholders in developing a common understanding of each student's educational need.

Once teaching and learning adjustments have been identified on the Schools Plus Profile, the school decides how resources are to be used.

Schools may deliver a wide range of adjustments or measures considered to be appropriate to achieve outcomes for each student.

Schools Plus complements programs and services that are provided by Statewide Specialist Services, District Education Offices and Central Office.
Schools Plus resources are provided in addition to the funding provided for every student in WA public schools.

Currently the annual cost of education in a WA public primary school is $ 8,756* per student, while the annual cost of educating a public secondary student is $ 11,255*.
