
For the student to successfully access learning activities and social interactions, it is essential that the teacher:
Teach movement skills and strategies to develop confident participation in physical activity.
Implement individual strategies as part of a skills for physical activity program. E.g., remind students to wear orthotics.
Develop specific program to teach independent mobility. E.g., develop and implement program to teach safe use of playground equipment, develop program with input from visiting teacher.
Implement individualised programs in consultation with parent/carer and therapist to teach independent mobility and positioning. Eg., develop program to assist student working toward independent transfer between wheelchair and toilet.
Implement individualised daily occupational and physiotherapy programs in consultation with parents/carers and therapists as per documented plan. Eg., develop program for use of hoist to lift and change student position at scheduled intervals.
Provide frequent extensive physical assistance across all learning areas in consultation with therapists as per documented plan for all aspects of movement and positioning. Eg., structured program to provide full physical assistance to enable student access, participation and physical wellbeing.
