Schools Plus Update

Jun 23, 2009
An information newsletter for schools - 15 June 2009
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) must be diagnosed jointly by a paediatrician, a clinical psychologist and a speech therapist/pathologist (except in High School, where the Speech assessment is not required). Since wait lists and assessment procedures can take a lot of time, an interim diagnosis can be assigned to the student so that interim funding may be made available. Contact your Schools Plus Consultant for further information on requirements for proof of eligibility.

  • Students with a Severe Mental Disorder must be diagnosed by a psychiatrist within the past 18 months. With interim funding proof on ongoing involvement from a mental health professional is sufficient for the annual resource review. Since it can take some time for a student to get in to see a Psychiatrist, interim funding pending a diagnosis is available. Please contact your school psychologist for further information on the procedure for applying for a “pending” interim resource.

  • Resources for students with a diagnosis of Global Developmental Delay cease on the day they turn 6. To avoid interruption to resources, ensure that assessment for eligibility to one of the other groups occurs before their 6th birthday.

  • The EN level reflects the teaching and learning adjustments being made in the areas of Curriculum Differentiation, Reporting and Assessment and Collaborative Planning.

  • Education Assistant FTE is allocated based on the teaching and learning adjustments being demonstrated in the dimensions 4 – 11.

  • Appeals against resourcing decisions made by Schools Plus must be requested within 28 days of receipt of the Approval notification.

  • Under changes introduced by Classroom First schools may only resubmit applications, with the addition of new information, once a semester. Managing workload is important, so don’t spend time writing a whole plan just for Schools Plus. We only require the working documents that you already produce in line with your responsibilities as outlined in Section O of the Industrial Agreement. If large parts of the plan are the same as for a previous submission, then add to that and highlight the bits that have changed.

This update’s friendly reminder:

  • There have been many changes in the Schools Plus Team. Please check the website for details of the current consultant for your district.

  • Additional funding is available to support students already registered with Schools Plus during ‘in-term swimming.’

  • Applications for 2010 can be submitted in Semester 2 2009

  • Transition to secondary school funding is available for Year 7 students already eligible for Schools Plus resourcing. Please contact your visiting teacher for advice about the procedure for applying for funding to support a transition pogram.

Please email your consultant with any questions you may have so that they can be addressed in the next newsletter.

Regards

The Schools Plus Team
