Verbal Judo for Individuals (Narrogin)


About the program

Verbal Judo is an invaluable life skill, and with practice, the principles and techniques will:

  • enhance the participant’s ability to always perform professionally under pressure
  • assist the participant to develop  personal and professional relationships.

Verbal Judo for Individuals is ideal for anyone who has direct contact with students, parents, work colleagues and/or the community in emotionally charged and difficult situations. It gives participants the advantage of knowing what to say, how to say it and why it works.

The program teaches how to treat people with respect, how to stay calm and professionally handle verbal resistance and abuse, and therefore reduce conflict. Implementing the skills and strategies in the workplace will increase the safety and professionalism of every encounter.

Learning intention

By the end of this program, it is intended participants will understand:

  • the goal of persuasion and professional discourse
  • how to read people
  • how to professionally handle verbal abuse
  • delivery style = 93% (success or failure)
  • the five step ‘Hard Style’ technique to overcome verbal resistance
  • the four appeals of persuasion
  • the management of self.

Target audience

Anyone who has direct contact with students, parents, work colleagues and/or the community.

Line managers should attend the two day Verbal Judo for Leaders, which includes advanced material that will assist in the often difficult role of overseeing the performance of others.

About the facilitator

Verbal Judo Australia has delivered more than 2000 programs across the country to government agencies and private companies since 1996.

Trevor Lawson is the Director of Verbal Judo Australia and has over 20 years experience as frontline security in the health sector, and as an instructor in management of aggression strategies and customer services skills. 

Verbal Judo is an internationally recognised customer service and negotiations training course.
