  • be able to identify the elements of effective feedback and how to utilise feedback to improve practice
  • be able to identify and explore classroom observation methods for implementation in your school
  • be able to develop a classroom observation plan for your school.

Target audience

Principals, aspiring principals and middle leaders.

Previous participants testimonials

“We chose this program as we are a new leadership team. We felt it was a perfect opportunity to get together and hear from experienced principals, in particular, who had gone through this process before us. I’ve been a principal for three years, so to hear from more experienced principals that have gone through the same journey gives you more confidence in your leadership abilities. It’s a safe environment in which to learn. You don’t feel like people are judging you and you feel like your voice is heard. In some regards you are helping others to consolidate what they already know.”

Sue Mikkelsen-Taylor, Principal, Ardross Primary School (April 2019)

“Having presenters like Geoff Metcalf and Carol Strauss, and their wealth of genuine knowledge, is great. They don’t try to lead you to a place that doesn’t exist. They tell you how it is and how tough it’s going to be. Having Geoff Smith, Principal of Currambine Primary School, come and speak about Classroom Observation in such an honest way, and what part of the journey they are at, gave us a really great idea of what we have to do. When you’re there, it’s nice to know that you’re not the only school in a certain position going through a process of change. To hear other schools speak about things that are so relatable to you and your school is really powerful.”

Tony Mirabella, Deputy Principal, Ardross Primary School (April 2019)

"This professional development was a fantastic opportunity to reflect upon the main direction of our school and how classroom observations will assist us achieve our goals."
Amanda Fleming, HOLA, Yanchep Secondary College (November 2018)

"An excellent workshop. Provided inspiration to take the next step in implementing and developing an embedded culture of collaboration and classroom observation."

Digby Mercer, Principal, Como Secondary College (November 2018)

"I found the Leading Classroom Observation and Feedback PD to be both informative and practical. It offered not only the theoretical evidence to support classroom observation and feedback but also some guidelines on how to successfully introduce/support this process."

Jacquie Bogunovich, Associate Principal, Canningvale College (November 2018)

"As a new and very inexperienced principal, this PL is the most useful I have attended. It has given me a framework to work in for school improvement- how to get started, how to increase staff buy-in, how to build evidence to show what we are doing, and how to use a range of evidence to assess impact."

Jancy Whyte, Principal, Coorow Primary School (November 2018)

"Some great take-aways from this course no matter your entry point. Useful templates to assess your own school, approaches to implementing classroom observation and powerful vignettes to demonstrate the impact of classroom observation."

Jacquie Abbiss, Deputy Principal, Melville Senior High School (November 2018)
