About the program

Leadership WA provides leadership development opportunities for leaders from the corporate, government and non-profit sectors in Western Australia.

Leadership WA’s Signature Leadership Program is for senior professionals who want to expand and enhance their capacity to be an influential leader and have an impact on the Western Australian community.

The Department of Education is offering one funded place in Leadership WA’s Signature Program running from February to November in 2018.

The closing date to apply for a Department funded place is Thursday, 30 November 2017 at 4.00pm.

Structure of the Program

The 2018 Signature Leadership Program includes:

  • residential opening and closing retreats
  • eleven full seminar days
  • two field trips to regional areas in Western Australia
  • site visits (optional)
  • pre-reading, action learning and reflections.

Apply for a Department funded place 

The cost of the program in 2018 is $14 410.

The Department will fund $12 155 for one participant. The successful applicant is required to personally contribute $2255 towards the course cost. This is a course requirement of Leadership WA.

Eligibility to apply for a Department funded place

Applications for a Department funded place in the program are now open to:

  • public service employees level 8 and above
  • principals level 5 and above.

How to apply for a Department funded position

  1. Complete a covering letter for the panel outlining your reason for applying and how you and the Department will benefit from your involvement in the program.
  2. Email your completed funded place application form and covering letter to the panel to martina.hughes@education.wa.edu.au.

If you are successful in being awarded the Department funded place, you will be required to apply directly to Leadership WA, and undergo their selection process also. The Institute for Professional Learning will provide information on how to do this, if you are the successful applicant.

Selection process

The Institute will convene a panel to assess applications against the stated eligibility requirements.

The decision of the selection panel is final. The Director General will ratify the panel decision.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.

Terms and Conditions

  • The successful applicant will need to complete the Leadership WA application process after receipt of the funded place.
  • The successful applicant will also be expected to share their expertise and knowledge gained in the program with colleagues as outlined by the Institute for Professional Learning. This knowledge sharing may come in the form of a written report, presentation at Institute events and networking sessions, promotional testimonials, and feedback to Institute management as required.

Applicants who are not successful in securing a funded place may apply directly to Leadership WA as self-funded participants in the Signature Leadership Program.

On completion of the program the successful applicant will become a member of the Leadership WA Alumni network of leaders.
