Graduate Teacher Induction Program

One of the benefits of starting a career in public education is that early career teachers will be supported by the Institute to transition from university to being classroom ready and beyond. The Institute coordinates the Graduate Teacher Induction Program, which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of early career teachers.

The Graduate Teacher Induction Program is designed to:

  • build graduate teacher capacity and skills as an effective classroom teacher
  • enhance graduate teacher professional practice
  • assist graduate teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • assist graduate teachers to transfer learning from the program to their teaching practice.

The Graduate Teacher Induction Program comprises the following programs:

Graduate Teacher Professional Learning Program: Over the first 30 months of teaching, graduate teachers in public schools are required to complete this program, which is designed to build graduates’ skills, effectiveness and confidence.  Participation in the Graduate Teacher Professional Learning Program is a requirement for all graduate teachers employed by the Department, regardless of their registration category with the Teachers Registration Board of Western Australia.

In-Class Coaching Program: This program provides graduates with a personalised professional learning experience facilitated by a trained teaching and learning advocate from the Institute. Participants will reflect on and develop their practice using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as a framework. The program complements and builds on the contextualised support provided by their school. Participation in the In-Class Coaching Program is voluntary and through an application based system.

Each of these programs are provided at no cost.
