Express your interest to participate in the co-design of a new aspirant Aboriginal leadership program

Participate in the co-design of a new aspirant Aboriginal leadership program

The Leadership Institute is committed to improving equity and diversity and increasing the number of Aboriginal peoples in leadership positions. As part of the Department's broader Leadership Strategy, and in the context of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework, we believe we need to identify, develop and support the next generation of Aboriginal leaders.

Aspirant Aboriginal staff will work together with current Aboriginal leaders to co-design the Aspirant Aboriginal Leadership program.  Co-design is a process in which end users, current and aspirant Aboriginal leaders, are equal participants and partners providing insights, contributing ideas, as well as testing and refining solutions.

The project is being delivered through the Leadership Institute and led by current Aboriginal leaders:

  • Paulina Motlop, Director, Aboriginal Education Teaching and Learning Directorate
  • Kevin O’Keefe, Principal Advisor, Aboriginal Education Teaching and Learning Directorate
  • Jackie Barry, Principal Onslow School
  • Weston Jackson, Principal Millars Well Primary School.

Key Department executives and Aboriginal Elder, Professor Colleen Hayward, are providing support and advice through the Project Steering Group.

It is important to note that at this stage we are looking for aspirant Aboriginal leaders who come under the Education Act starting from classroom teacher level.

This is an important opportunity to empower Aboriginal staff to design a leadership program that will meet their needs and aid in the development of strong Aboriginal leaders across all schools.
