Mediation

A process where a neutral third party assists the complainant and respondent to reach a voluntary, negotiated resolution of a complaint.

Mediation gives the parties the opportunity to discuss the issues raised, clear up misunderstanding, determine interests or concerns, find areas of agreement and incorporate these areas of agreement into a resolution. The mediation process is confidential.

Mediation may not be appropriate in all cases, particularly if the incident involves possible criminal conduct of any kind or constitutes a breach of legislation.
