WA Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival

21 August 2021
WA Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival

This event is run in partnership with the WA Classical Guitar Society. The 32nd WA Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival will be held from 21st-22nd August, 2021.

Any enquiries relating to the festival should be directed to Tanya Chapman or Deborah Banks at Instrumental Music School Services.

The WA Classical Guitar Society was founded in 1960 to provide a vehicle for professional development, forums and master classes, a platform for performances of local, interstate and overseas artists, and the general promotion of the classical guitar throughout Western Australia.

The aims of the Classical Guitar Festival are:

  1. To provide a performance opportunity for students (especially young students).
  2. To give ensembles an opportunity to hear others perform.
  3. To provide each ensemble with constructive comments from an informed adjudicator.
  4. To present each ensemble with a certificate which recognises its participation.

Conductors' feedback

During each performance, conductors will be videoed if requested and given constructive and confidential one-to-one conducting professional development  by an adjudicator immediately following their performance. Students will be ushered to specially allocated seating to view other performances during your feedback session and then you will meet with your students after your feedback session to have your photograph taken. This has proved to be very popular with many directors in other festivals and the positive feedback that they have received, has been an extremely valuable tool in their professional development.

There are five divisions to select from: Primary, Junior (secondary), Senior (secondary), Tertiary and Community. The Primary option is reserved for primary school entries only. A Junior Ensemble will typically be a lower secondary school (years 7-9) and a Senior Ensemble will typically be senior secondary students (years 9-12). The Tertiary option is for university entries and the Community option is for groups not affiliated with a particular school.
