Resource centre

The collection

The resource centre at the Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) houses an extensive collection of publications relating to education and particularly instrumental music education, plus music for instrumental instruction and ensembles:

  • approximately 1700 concert band scores, 600 string orchestra scores and 300 orchestra scores
  • jazz collection (solo, duets, pedagogy, reference, play-a-longs, transcribed solos, and CDs)
  • festival pieces for the WA schools' festivals
  • solo instruments, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, horn, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, percussion, vocal, piano, electric guitar and bass guitar
  • large collection of ensembles for wind (400), brass (200), mixed instruments (160), percussion (90), strings (200), guitar (300) and jazz (300)
  • teacher resources including publications relating to education and particularly instrumental music education.

Search by title, composer/author, publisher and any keyword or by category/area by using the radio buttons. Please note that the online database may not show the most recent acquisitions, check with the IMSS library technician.

Membership is open to all public and independent school music teachers, IMSS staff and tertiary students. Membership is free. Borrowers may register in person or by email.

What can I borrow?

Items may be borrowed for up to eight weeks or until the end of term - whichever comes first. If items are required for a longer period, arrangements may be made with the library technician.

Exceptions are:

  • festival items 7 day loan (two items)
  • compact discs 14 day loan (two items)
  • journals 4 week loan
  • teacher resources 4 week loan.

How many items can I borrow?

  • IMSS staff 20 items
  • teachers 5 items
  • students 3 items.

Conditions of borrowing

Music must be kept in good condition. Please do not fold or mark with ink. Pencil marks must be erased, music placed in numerical order and checked for missing parts on return. Missing parts must be replaced as soon as possible, at the individual or school's expense. Further loans cannot be made until either parts are found or a replacement copy is provided.

Music borrowed from the IMSS resource centre is available for practice, study and evaluation only and is not able to be copied.

Requesting material

Country staff can request loans by phone, fax or email for dispatch and return by courier. Other borrowers must arrange to collect and return loans.

Opening hours

Monday - Friday:
8.15am - 4.30pm

The resource centre is closed for part of the Christmas school holiday break.
