Musical Instrument Loans System (MILS)

The database of musical instrument loans from the Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) collection has now been placed on the Department of Education's central server. Schools can now access this direct to see the information relevant to their school, and to print out any information required for their own use.

There is no access to information about other schools or stock currently held at IMSS. There is no capacity to alter the data or order instruments from IMSS through the site. All instrument transactions still need to be processed through IMSS Office Assistant Yvonne Batley.

As a result of this change IMSS will no longer be mailing hard copies of instrument holdings or issue and return vouchers to schools. However, tax invoices for the instrumental charges will still be mailed to schools as in the past. Invoice queries should be directed to Alethea Hunt at IMSS.

As this is a secure application, access is only available to the manager corporate services and the school principal or his/her delegate. We suggest that the primary music specialist or secondary teacher-in-charge of music might be appropriate principal's delegates.

You can access the system and view your school's data by following these steps:

  1. Enter via the following URL:
  2. We suggest that you bookmark this for future quick reference!
  3. To log on, use your Department single sign-on that you use to access online systems such as HRMIS.
  4. When you enter MILS please ignore 'Select a Group' and go to the next step. Under Reports you will be able to access 'Borrower Current Holdings'. This is the only report relevant to each school.
  5. Under the heading 'User Management', principals will be able to delegate access authority to other staff members.
  6. Technical difficulties involved in accessing MILS: please contact Customer Support Centre on 9264 5555.
  7. For assistance regarding details of the instruments or transactions shown in MILS, please contact Yvonne Batley at IMSS.
