WA Premier’s Primary Teacher of the Year

This award recognises a primary school teacher (includes early childhood and special education) for their role in delivering high quality education for students.

Prizes

  • One individual prize of $25 000 for the WA Premier’s Primary Teacher of the Year (50% for professional development and 50% cash). See the conditions of entry for more information.
  • Three individual cash prizes of $2500 each for State finalists.

Selection criteria

The selection criteria is based on the National Professional Standards for Teachers. Please refer to this document as a guide when addressing the selection criteria.

Nominations must address all of the three selection criteria:

  1. professional knowledge
  2. professional practice
  3. professional engagement.

You may use this template when addressing the selection criteria.

Eligibility

  • A nominee may be nominated in only one individual award category in any year.
  • All recognised professionally qualified teachers teaching in a Western Australian public primary school (includes early childhood and special education), with a significant proportion of the week dedicated to classroom teaching, are eligible.
  • Previous winners (not finalists) of a Premier’s Teacher of the Year award will not be considered for a 2011 award.
  • Self-nomination in individual award categories will not be accepted.
  • Posthumous nominations will not be accepted.
  • Joint nominations for individuals operating on a tandem, team or job share basis will not be accepted.
  • Teachers at middle schools and District High schools can be nominated in either primary or secondary. This may be based on whether the majority of students they are teaching are in Year 8 upwards or Year 7 and below.
