Holiday of a lifetime for Challenge winner

18 July 2012
A TRIP to Broome was on the cards this school holidays for Gooseberry Hill Primary School student Jonathon Vagg.

Jonathon was the lucky major prize winner of the Premier’s Summer Reading Challenge 2011/2012 (in support of the MS Society of WA) receiving a family holiday valued at $6000 thanks to major sponsor QBE Insurance.

The family of four spent their week in Broome going on walks, relaxing in the hotel, swimming and shopping.

Jonathon’s mother Christine said the holiday was enjoyed by the entire family as it was a once in a lifetime experience.

“We have been to Broome before on camping trips but have not stayed there in a hotel with a pool so the kids liked that they had their own room with a TV,” she said.

The family also went to Cable Beach on their trip, went on the Horizontal Falls tour, rode in a seaplane, had breakfast on a boat while watching the nurse sharks get fed and rode a jetboat through Horizontal Falls.

Jonathon was lucky enough to sit next to the pilot in the seaplane on the way back to the hotel where he saw whales off Cape Leveque – the first time they have been spotted all season according to the pilot.

Jonathon said he was very thankful for the prize.

“Thanks to the Premier’s Summer Reading Challenge for allowing my family and I to go to Broome and see the Horizontal Falls by seaplane and enjoy Cable Beach,” he said.

“We relaxed a lot at our hotel and swam in the pool and even went to the Broome weekend market.”
