Supporting pregnant and parenting young people


Schools providing classes for pregnant and parenting young people and onsite child care

There are schools and centres in Western Australia that provide an opportunity for pregnant and parenting young people to attend classes and some have access to onsite child care.

Balga Senior High School, Child Care Centre and Young Parents Program

This service is for teenage parents attending Balga Senior High School and their children. The child care centre is located on the school site and the Balga SHS Young Parents Program caters specifically for pregnant and parenting young people.

Eyes Wide Open

For students who have not successfully completed Year 10 or need extra support to continue or resume secondary education or prepare for work or training.

Mum’s the Word

Supports pregnant and parenting young people in the Albany area by providing an educational program through SIDE, a study supervisor and a crèche.

Port School

Port is an independent school that serves students who have not been able to achieve success in mainstream school settings.  It has an early learning centre and young parents centre.

Schools of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE)

SIDE supports pregnant and parenting young people throughout WA to continue with their education by enabling them to enrol in lower and senior secondary courses and thus combine parenting and study commitments.

A range of senior school engagement programs is available in a large number of senior high schools across the state. Enquiries should be made direct to local high schools.

Sevenoaks Senior College

The College has an innovative approach to senior secondary schooling, is an RTO and offers comprehensive courses for a diverse student population.

Trinity Learning Centre (Uniting Care West)

Trinity Learning Centre supports pregnant and parenting teenage women who are enrolled in secondary studies through SIDE and/or TAFE.

INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILDREN ON SCHOOL PREMISES

Five Children and Family Centres (predominantly for Aboriginal families) and three Early Learning and Care Centres are being established in Western Australia as part of the early childhood education reforms. These centres will provide additional sources of support and child care for pregnant and parenting young people.
