About Sustainable Schools WA

Sustainable Schools WA supports schools to develop a whole-school approach to education for sustainability consistent with the Western Australian Curriculum. Sustainable Schools WA's whole-school planning framework promotes and supports the use of 'sustainability' as a key context for teaching and learning, and school organisation.

Over 500 schools in Western Australia have registered with the initiative and made the commitment to embedding sustainability within their respective cultures; this is consistent with the central focus of schools on student wellbeing, both now and into the future, as well as the wellbeing of other species and ecosystems on which we ultimately depend for our own mental and physical wellbeing.

Through a focus on critical and creative thinking, ethical behaviour and action-based learning, schools can act as a 'model' for the community in terms of sustainability practices.
