Teaching and Learning

The students had to:

  • Choose an idea
  • Work out the practical ways of implementation
  • Work out how to advertise
  • Determine how prizes would be awarded
  • Decide how to get the message to parents because they are in control of what the children do

Students and teachers are keen to see positive travel choice behaviours become ongoing – with or without reminders. An annual ‘Walk or Ride to School’ day to remind students of the messages taught during the project has been proposed.

A real highlight of the project was the leadership shown by students in promoting positive ideas. It was found to be most effective for students to be very actively involved, as the impact is greater when key messages are coming from peers.
