Sustainability Action Planning

A five-year School Environmental Plan for Sustainability ensures a long-term commitment to Education for Sustainability and covers all aspects of planning, development and evaluation. The school reinforces the program’s success via communication through teacher notices, community newsletters and local media. The school’s Environmental Policy is displayed in all classrooms and other buildings around the school.

To support the program, a specialist environmental teacher is employed one day a week at the school. The allocation of school-based funding for the running of the program has also been central to the program’s success.

A Sustainability Committee of teachers and education assistants shares the responsibility of many exciting projects that take place within the school. All ideas are presented to the whole staff where democratic processes decide if and how they can be implemented. All staff members, including the gardener, are enthusiastic supporters of the school’s activities and are proud of Amaroo’s achievements.
