Sustainability Action Planning

SVACS is a new school, and opened its doors to K - 8 students at the beginning of 2006. Prior to the commencement of the first intake of students, sustainability activities had been envisaged and links with interested parties were established.

The school held several meetings with Earthcare who were involved with managing local bushland and wetlands that were affected by the development of the suburb of Aveley and ways in which the school could work with Earthcare were discussed.

The school also met with local artists with a view to using reclaimed wood from trees that were to be removed from the development within the school campus.

The idea of establishing a school garden was discussed, using the horticultural knowledge possessed by the staff. The potential to grow native species from seed and use these for local replanting was viewed as one possibility for the garden as well as growing fruit and vegetables to be used in school.

At this stage there is no appointed Education for Sustainability Coordinator or Committee however there has been some Professional Development undertaken by staff:

Professional Development

  • Sustainable Schools Initiative WA (AuSSI-WA) - ‘Making the Connections’
  • Waterwise Schools Program
  • Waste Wise Schools Program (planned)
