Western Australian Curriculum

The Pre-primary to Year 10 Western Australian Curriculum provides a coherent and comprehensive set of prescribed content and achievement standards which schools use to plan student learning programs, assess student progress and report to parents.  The curriculum is developed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) who are responsible for Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum, assessment, standards and reporting for all Western Australian schools.

Department of Education's Resources Online (Connect)

The Department of Education's Resources Online (Connect) provides Western Australian public school educators with a huge range teaching and learning resources. These resources include units of work; teacher guides; digital interactives; documentary footage; data sets and many more resources that provide for all curriculum areas and year levels.

Department resources have been quality assured for educational value and to meet the needs of teachers. Many resources are aligned to the Australian Curriculum and can be found using the codes listed in the Australian Curriculum.

The Department has obtained licences for suites of resources and lesson plans for use in Western Australian public schools. Access Resources Online to ensure your school is not charged when you use these resources in your classroom.

The best way to search for resources using the new search engine is to start with a broad search term such as your learning area, and then select from the menu to refine your search.

NAPLAN Planner

The NAPLAN Planner is a support resource to assist teachers in preparing students for NAPLAN in reading, writing, spelling and language conventions. Persuasive writing support materials assist Year 2/3, 4/5 and 6/7 teachers with teaching persuasive writing. The resources include specific classroom strategies, modelled, shared and guided literacy focus lessons, activities, work samples and suggested topics for student writing.

EAL/D Progress Map

The EAL/D Progress Map is an integrated teaching, monitoring and assessment tool that can be used with students for whom English is an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). The map supports the teaching and learning of Standard Australian English across all curriculum contexts.

The Progress Map is available for Early Childhood, Middle Childhood and Early Adolescence.

Primary Connections

Primary Connections - Linking Science with Literacy is an innovative approach to teaching and learning which aims to enhance primary school teachers’ confidence and competence for teaching science.

The Primary Connections series of curriculum resources linking the teaching of Science with the teaching of literacy, have been developed by the Australian Academy of Science. Units of work are suitable for students in the early childhood and middle childhood phases of development.

This resource includes Questioning Minds, a series of short videos designed to educate teachers about Primary Connections, and demonstrate how Primary Connections works in the classroom.
