Graduate teacher entitlements

Entitlements: First-year allowances

Resource Eligibility Point of access

Start-Up allowance

$1600/year/FTE
 

Pro rata based on FTE and days worked. Income tax applies.
 

Paid directly to graduate through payroll.
 

Graduate release time

Payment based on school appointment.

Payment made to school by School Funding.

  • 8 days graduate release time - can be used for planning or may be accumulated for professional learning (during the first year of program).
  • 8 days to attend Graduate Modules 1, 2 and 3 and the 4th Module.

Twelve days (eight graduate release plus four days graduate module attendance days) initial payment to school from School Funding upon notification from HRMIS of graduate appointment to school.

Four days payment to school from School Funding upon notification from Statewide Services of module completion.

Contingency allowance

For travel and accommodation to attend modules.

Payment based on school appointment.

Payment made to school by School Funding.

Available for Modules 1 and 2 only. Amount is determined by location:

  • Metro schools – 10% of two teacher relief days
  • Country schools – amount is determined by distance from Perth and relative isolation.
     

Paid as operational response allocation – salary to school on advice of graduate appointment.

Curriculum materials allowance

To support graduate teacher acquiring personal curriculum materials.
 

Payment based on school appointment.

Payment made to school by School Funding.

  • Primary $150
  • Secondary $78

Receipts are required from graduate teacher for payment (reimbursement through school).
 

Paid to schools through the gateway.

Completion of the Graduate Teacher program is a requirement of the Department of Education.

Modules 1, 2 and 3 are to be completed sequentially.

The 4th Module - De-escalation and Positive Handling may be accessed at any time within the first 30 months of teaching.
