Graduate Teachers Induction Program: Overview

The Department of Education provides a targeted induction program for graduate teachers in public schools.

Providing support to early career teachers to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom is a Department priority. Support is provided on several levels including:

  • provision of targeted professional learning modules
  • access to a coaching program
  • planned school induction processes
  • clear entitlements

The Graduate Teacher Induction Program is coordinated by Statewide Services and is designed to:

  • build graduate teacher capacity and skills as an effective classroom teacher
  • enhance graduate teacher professional practice
  • support early career teachers' wellbeing
  • assist graduate teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • assist graduate teachers to transfer learning from the program to their teaching practice.

The Department of Education supports graduate teachers to transition from university to being classroom ready and beyond.
