Teacher flying squad

The Flying Squad offers short term teaching opportunities at rural schools across Western Australia.

Benefits

Teachers appointed to the Flying Squad Pool are entitled to additional benefits:

  • flexibility to accept or decline appointments as offered
  • withdraw from the pool at any time
  • locality and/or school specific allowances on a pro rata basis
  • free accommodation at the location
  • free travel to and from the location
  • your applications can remain active in other central pools (for example: Fixed-term/Graduate teacher pools) whilst in a Flying Squad appointment.

Who can apply?

To apply you must meet the Department's eligibility to teach and Flying Squad Short-Term Appointment Pool requirements:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights from the Department of Home Affairs
  • possess a teaching qualification from an accredited teacher education program. Teachers seeking work with us for the first time must possess a minimum of a four year tertiary qualification with one year specialising in Education
  • be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA)
  • meet the Department of Education’s pre-employment probity checks
  • currently reside in Western Australia
  • be willing and available to fill vacancies in rural locations across the state for a short-term duration, ranging from twenty (20) working days to one (1) term.

Where are the schools?

It is important to be prepared and research the schools where you have been offered an appointment.

Schools that have appointed Flying Squad teachers in the past have included those in the Pilbara, Midwest and Goldfields education regions.

How do I apply?

Applications for the Flying Squad must be submitted online via Jobs WA.

  • Short-Term Appointment Pool applications (Category 2) are accepted at any time throughout the year.
  • Applications for Fixed-Term Appointments for 2 years (Category 1) are advertised on an as required basis. Information on the application eligibility and process will be made available via this website.
