Applying to the Remote Teaching Service

There are three ways you can gain a teaching job in a remote school. You can apply to:

  • the relevant Remote Teaching Service Pool
  • advertised vacancies on Jobs WA
  • the Fixed Term Teacher Appointment Pool or Graduate Teacher pool for appointments of up to 6 months.

Teachers permanent to a public school in Western Australia

If you are already a permanent teacher you can gain a teaching appointment at a remote school by:

1. Applying at any time to the Remote Teaching Service Pool for Permanent Teachers located on the Internal Jobs Board simply by submitting your CV.  When uploading your details, you will have the opportunity to select the remote schools you would like to work in.  Long term vacancies are filled with applicants from this pool and teachers are usually offered a three year contract.

2. Applying to advertised vacancies on Jobs WA.

3. Applying to the Fixed Term Teacher Appointment Pool or Graduate Teacher Pool for short term appointments of up to 6 months.

As a permanent teacher, if you are successful in gaining a position in a remote school you will hold your permanent position at your existing school for the duration of your appointment.

Teachers not permanent to a public school in Western Australia

If you are not a permanent teacher in a Western Australian public school, you can gain a teaching job in a remote school by:

1. Applying to the  Remote Teaching Service Pool located on Jobs WA.  You will need to submit your CV and a statement addressing the selection criteria.  You can apply to this pool at any time, and when uploading your details you will have the opportunity to select the remote schools you would like to work in.  A panel of remote school principals will then determine your suitability.  Long term vacancies are filled with applicants from this pool and teachers will usually be offered a three year contract.  Following the successful completion of two years’ continuous service, you will be made permanent.  If this appointment is for three years, you will be eligible for 10 weeks Remote Teaching Service leave.

2. Applying to school advertised vacancies located on Jobs WA.  You will need to submit your CV and a statement addressing the selection criteria.

Teachers will usually be offered a three year contract.  Following the successful completion of two years’ continuous service, you will be made permanent.  If this appointment is for three years, you will be eligible for 10 weeks Remote Teaching Service leave.

3. Applying to the Graduate Teacher Pool (for teachers in their first two years of teaching) or Fixed Term Teacher Appointment Pool for short term contracts of up to 6 months.  You can be considered for short term appointments of up to 6 months by listing remote schools in your location choices.
