Country Teaching Program

The Country Teaching Program offers you opportunities for advancement, leadership roles, financial incentives, and capacity to fast-track to permanent employment with the Department. Approximately 120 country schools are part of the program. Many of these schools are in small and sometimes challenging communities.

Teachers in the program receive:

  • financial incentives of between $5,000 and $13,730 a year depending on location
  • double transfer points after two years in Country Teaching Program schools
  • permanency at their last Country Teaching Program school after two years continuous and satisfactory service.

Teachers seeking permanency are responsible for securing two years continuous service in a Country Teaching Program school. If an initial contract is less than two years, interested teachers need to apply directly for advertised positions in Country Teaching Program schools or nominate Country Teaching Program schools in the Teacher Pool - Fixed Term Opportunities or Graduate teacher pool.

Approximately 60 schools in Perth are part of the Metropolitan Teaching Program. These schools are considered more challenging due to a range of factors including location and socio-economic status indicators.

Teachers in the program receive:

  • additional financial incentives of up to $3,000 a year depending on location
  • permanency after two years continuous and satisfactory service.
