School Performance Branch

The School Performance Branch provides and supports the School Improvement and Accountability policy and framework; develops, maintains, enhances and reports on datasets relating to student and school performance delivered via a range of information systems; manages the On-entry assessment program; and provides and supports the Gifted and Talented policy including management of the application, selection and placement processes for the Department’s Gifted and Talented programs. The Branch is responsible for:

  • developing, maintaining and implementing a school improvement and accountability policy and framework.
  • providing data, analysis and advice related to school improvement and accountability and school and student performance.
  • providing tools and advice to support school leaders and those responsible for reviewing school performance and supporting school improvement.
  • providing professional learning related to the analysis and interpretation of school and student level performance information.
  • managing the On-Entry Assessment Program.
  • providing strategic direction, policy advice, resource allocation and program monitoring for the Department’s Gifted and Talented programs.
  • selecting students for the Department’s Gifted and Talented programs, including application, assessment and placement.
  • developing, enhancing, maintaining and reporting on key information systems and datasets related to school and student performance. These include: Schools Online; School Performance Monitoring System (SPMS); Student Achievement Information System K-10 (SAIS K-10) incorporating EARS/First Cut; Student Attendance Reporting (SAR); Online Incident Notification System (OINS); Suspensions and Exclusions; Reporting Requirements of Schools (RRS); NAPLAN, WAMSE and senior secondary data, On-entry assessment data and the Student Information Repository (SIR).
  • liaising with the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) for data provision to My School.
  • liaising with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) for data exchange relating to NAPLAN, WAMSE and senior secondary data.
  • providing representation on national working groups relating to school and student data and school improvement and accountability.
